Hey you! Welcome to my playground.
My name is Van, I am a law student and currently live in Germany. Prior to that I went to a boarding school in the United States and also studied there afterward. Since March 2018 I have been seriously pursuing photography as a hobby and just recently started to fiddle with videography (around August 2020).
I’ve had several DSLRs prior to that but never really did something serious with them. I guess as a little tech-nerd I was just excited to have some technical gear in my hands. That was back in 2015 (gee, I am old!). Back then I was lacking creativity and the movation to try something new. It was in March 2018 when I decided to do more with photography. By more I mean explore what type of photography I personally prefer.
It didn’t take too much time for me to figure out that I enjoy street and urban photography the most. It was also very clear to me at the beginning that I want to learn more in post production. Ever since then I have been editing my photos with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Post production is something I underestimated when I started with photography because I had no idea how much I would actually enjoy it.
For some it’s just applying settings or configurations much like applying a filter on a photo. For me it is a way to be creative. It’s not only about applying a filter or preset so to speak. There are tons of ways to create a certain mood or vibe that you can only achieve in post. Besides allowing me to live out my creativity at the same I can relax while editing my photos.
My main goal with this entire project is to become more advanced in my photography and editing skills. On my way to my goals I like to help others who also enjoy this type of photography and would like to learn how to shoot or edit the way how I do it.
What’s the story behind „Offeneblende“?
Originally I started this project in German and picked a username which had a clear relation to photography. „Offeneblende“ or rather „offene Blende“ translated into English stands for „wide aperture“. The story behind this is mind blowing. Back when I got my first prime lens, the Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 I was so amazed by the „creamy“ bokeh that naturally I shot in wide aperture only. It was only a logical consquence that I gave myself that username.
You might have discovered that some blog articles are in German. I switched to English at around September 2020 so all articles prior to that date are in German. Don’t worry tho I won’t switch back. Social Media is a nice way to get in touch with people from all over the world and converse about photography and other things. Thus I won’t be switching back allthough I have to say that I enjoy writing and conversing in German as well.
